Northern Virginia Y-League Battle Instate Rivals
Youth Teams Faced Fredericksburg, Hampton Roads, and Richmond Strikers
Over the last three days, the Northern Virginia Royals and Northern Virginia Majestics Super Y-League teams faced opponents comprised primarily of rival clubs within the Commonwealth of Virginia.  The Northern Virginia Majestics gained favorable overall results against both Fredericksburg Gunners and Richmond Strikers Y-League for the weekend while the Royals youth sides went undefeated against the visiting Hampton Roads Piranhas boys teams.

Beginning with the younger age groups, the U13 Super Y-League Majestics bounced back from a 2-1 Friday loss to a strong Alpharetta United team from Georgia. Meghan Cox found the net three times on Saturday, propelling the Majestics to a shut out victory over the young Fredericksburg Gunners with her hat trick. The Majestics continued to roll the next day, scoring five second half goals to trounce the Richmond Strikers U13 girls on the road. Vanessa Kovar, Autumn Berry, and Jewel Christian all contributed to the goal scoring Sunday, with Cox again adding to her total on the win.

The U13 Royals had the rest of the weekend off after beating the visiting Alpharetta United 3-0 on Friday. The U14 Majestics struggled on the road over the weekend, falling 3-1 to the Richmond Strikers after being narrowly edged 2-1 by Fredericksburg the previous day.

The U15 Majestics girls split their matches between Richmond and Fredericksburg, with a single goal deciding each hard fought match. Shannon Archer’s left-footed strike into the side netting was enough to earn the Majestics the 1-0 result over Fredericksburg on Saturday. Richmond reversed the result on Sunday, edging the Majestics 1-0.

The U15 Royals turned in a dominating performance Sunday, routing the Hampton Roads Piranhas 9-0. Andrew Panken led Northern Virginia up front, blasting home four goals on the afternoon. The Royals have scored a total of 19 goals and allowed only 3 on the season so far.

The U16 and U17 Majestics finished the weekend without a loss, earning a combined two wins and a tie. Both teams currently sit at the top of their respective standings at this early point in the Super Y-League season. The U17 Royals cruised to a 4-1 result over Hampton Roads in their only match of the weekend.

The Royals and Majestics finished the weekend with a combined Super Y-League tally of 8-4-1. As a club, Northern Virginia finished 3-1-1 against the Fredericksburg Gunners, 2-2-0 against the Richmond Strikers, and 3-0-0 against the Hampton Roads Piranhas.
