The U17 Super Y-League Northern Virginia Majestics earned a hard-fought 2-0 result over the U17 Plantation SC to catapult them into the semifinal round of the 2008 Super Y-League North American Championship. Breiana White blasted home the second Majestic goal in the waning moments of the game, giving Northern Virginia the necessary goal differential total to advance to the next round.
The U17 Majestics faced a difficult task after dropping a tough result to MPS Cape Cod in the opening game of the tournament. A 5-0 drubbing of the U17 Rage SC (PA) girls gave Northern Virginia the chance to earn advancement. After holding a tenuous 1-0 lead for much of this morning’s game, White fired a missile shot from 25 yards out untouched into the Plantation SC goal, securing the wild card spot on goal differential in the u17 bracket.
Also qualifying for post tournament play, the Northern Virginia Royals advanced to the semifinals of the U15 boys’ tournament, winning 1-0 over Juventus SC this morning at Ed Radice Sports Complex in Tampa, Florida. The win gave the Royals, who also advanced to the finals of the U14 boys’ tournament last season, a two point edge over the closest Group A team, Parsippany SC, who finished the group play stage of the 10th Annual North American Finals with five points.
Parsippany tied Northern Virginia, 1-1 on the opening day of the North American Finals and drew even with Juventus, 0-0 yesterday. Today, they extended their unbeaten streak to three games when they slipped by the Chicago Magic, 2-1, in what amounted to a consolation match for both teams following Northern Virginia’s victory earlier in the day.
The U15 Royals take on West Coast FC at 1:0PM while the U17 Majestics face the Ottawa Fury at 5:00PM for their respective semifinal matches. In the consolation matches, the U14 Royals square off against Blackwatch SC, the U16 Royals take on Sunrise SC, and the U17 Royals face the Toronto Lynx.
