On the heels of the United States Soccer Federation’s announcement detailing the return of women’s professional soccer, the ownership group of the Northern Virginia Majestics is suspending W-League operations for the upcoming 2013 season. The Majestics staff is dedicating their resources to help operate and promote the soon-to-be-named Washington DC women’s professional franchise slated to start play in 2013.
Completely dedicated to the United Soccer Leagues model, Northern Virginia will continue to operate both the Virginia Alliance and Majestics Super Y-league and Super 20 girls programs.
The Majestics staff is expected to be largely involved in the administration and operational aspects of the W-League component of the DC organization, as well as assisting with the full professional side. DC will operate a complete and separate roster in each of the two leagues in 2013.
The Northern Virginia Majestics formed in 1998 and began play in the USL W-League the following year in 1999. The Majestics were a founding member of the girls Super Y-League in 2001 and have developed thousands of youth players over the last decade.
